Christmas |
St George's Cathedral 2006
mary lilies
and st joseph
chrysanthemum gold
daisy stars
a triangular of flowers
behind the Christmas priests
and beaded archangel
whose braided wings
wire-streams cascading light
for the gospel Christ
coming on the waters
in blue of stain glass
light breaking into colour
in the booming bassoon
of organ incense breathing morn
Word in infant crib
underneath altar
underneath our living
with angels dancing
on lectern and pew
sliding through eyes and tears
dreams and fears
of cathedral congregation
We like sages
camel-driven, work-tired,
holiday-resting in city
avoiding stable-life
For a moment sheep-herded
cattle-gazing, donkey-bowed
wide-eyed, staring within
and a new rhythm playing us
now heart wakened
love opened
wine mellow
we the virgin womb
and the infant
birthing in us.
