a stillness pervades their house
to Sue, Kevin and Kim

In the morning as the tide
reshaped the jagged rocks
of the island, we came
bearing a casket of flowers
gathered around Jesus on the shore
   and his disciples launching out
   into the deep

mother and children
grown stronger in years
wrote love messages
in vellum of sand
braille for the sea's memory
walked along water's edge
on bridal cause-way
where the blue withdraws to the ocean
placed his ashes
on the waters
released him in lavender and roses
down a forest of seaweed
to the one who came walking
on the water:
   do not be afraid
   It is I

and now a stillness
pervades their house.
